COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
1. I think she needs to be appropriately categorized in the propositional logic stage of formal operational. She stated a problem which was pollution, and that the contributor is gas. She then states that if we get rid of gas, then we solve the problem of pollution.
2. She hasnt thought about the possibilities of what contributes to pollution, but she has come out with the conclusion gas is the problem. The more she learns about pollution, the better her own logic stage will be in reasoning.
3. I think the teacher is trying to push her to allow for more thought. I think she is using propositional logic. Mr Marculescu is testing her to see if she uses different solutions to problems.
4. I think Laura uses the term "play" to get the attention and try and look good in front of others. Being in highschool, she is the type to love attention and look good to classmates, because she is trying to find out what kind of person she wants to be (her identity).
SOCIAL AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT
1. It is important for high school students to be important and feel noticed by their peers. I think her conclusion of what she looks like comes from what others percieve as good. The most important thing in the world to her is looking good to her peers.
2. For me, athletics was a great way to gain friendships and an identity. an athlete is a part of something important... known as a team. A friend of mine mentioned drama club being a great spot for someone like Laura. most of the time, there is a spotlight on one individual, allowing for attention.
3. She is definitely in the individualism and exchange stage of Kohlberg's theory. The importance of things in her life are based on what she see's as important. I think her teacher could allow for some spotlight questions, to allow her to feel positive about herself. It will also allow for a more positive class in her eyes.
4. If a student is drivin by what the debate class brings, then it could be very positive. There can also be a situation where a high school student could become annoyed by a teacher pressuring them, and then that would allow for negative social development
